WAGGING TALES!
Hi Fellow Barkers!
So, this Maiden Voyage
begins. Whooooo Eeeeeee! And THIS ship is paddled by canine-power. You are entering the D-zone.
Doggie-Zone, if ya need it spelled out. This is a wacky world of tail-wagging,
sure-footed, crazy canine antics. We’ll talk serious and we’ll
talk silliness. We’ll talk about all things having to do with our best friends! No, ladies … not the gals we “dish” with while sipping salty-edged Margaritas
and spicy Tacos al Carbon at that special Mexican restaurant. And, guys…….stop
laughing right now. Ya hear me! You know who your best bud is and it’s not the fella with which you share a “Bud”weiser and peanut/pretzel mixture at the
sports bar. Oh, and by the way, you kids and young adults … a quick pet on the
head and scratch behind the ears and you’re off to the mall or to be with your
boy-or-girlfriend. H – e – l – l – o?
We’re talkin’ here! ... your
best friend. The one who licks your face after being punished. The one who still
sits next to you after being sorely neglected. The one who gives kisses, in
spite of being ignored. The one who greets you at the door with big, wide eyes.
The one who jumps in your lap, curls up and asks for nothing. And, the one that
does those humiliating tricks for your friends …. Yeah, you know what I mean. Bingo! (well, not that all
our pups are named “Bingo”) They are our Cocker cuties,
our Lhasa Apso love-muffins, our Poodle puffs, our greyt Greyhounds, our chi-chi
Shih Tzus, gorgeous Golden Retrievers, our lovely Labs … get the picture? I knew
you would.
So, lets talk! Send us your
whimsical stories, pup-isms, pictures of you with your best friend. You could
possibly see your “tale” here! Just send to:

Tracking Tidbit:
Can
search dogs track at night?
Yes, of course. In fact, we prefer to track at night. Air molecules stay
lower to the ground at night and there are fewer scents to contend with in the
evening.
What hurts scent?
Heavy vehicle and human traffic Heavy rains of 2" per day Cigarette smoke
(Nicotine is an anesthetizing agent that can numb up the search dogs scent
receptors by 95%)

Here's
one of "those tips" that ACTUALLY worked!
Kali, my retired racer greyhound, did what she does best. Table-surfed in the
office. She managed to get hold of a BLACK ink computer cartridge and broke it
apart in no time covering the living room and dining room carpets with black ink
soot. Not to mention her entire snout and both front paws. What a delightful
morning, driving from emergency vet to groomer ... ARG!!! As it turned out,
emergency vet, thankfully, was not needed and groomer was WELL UNDERPAID for
Kali's cleanup. I used my Hoover carpet cleaner with, oh, about, 6 hours of
passovers using every detergent, cleaner and solvent I could lay my hands on,
and then came upon this first suggestion using Alcohol and Hydrogen Peroxide!
YEAH! Cleanup took minutes! Just passing along.

Please help. How do I remove a stain on my carpet from the ink cartridge in my
computer printer?
--D.S., The Colony, TX
Changing cartridges sure can create a mess! It's important to get to any stain
as soon as possible. The cleaning method depends on the type of ink.
If it's powdery: Vacuum first, holding the nozzle above the stain. (Touching the
fiber might further grind in the ink.) Then apply a spot remover or carpet
cleaner with foaming action to lift up the ink. Blot and repeat until the stain
is gone. Finally, rinse with water and blot with a dry towel to remove the
detergent or cleaning agent residue.
If it's a liquid: Blot up as much as possible with a dry towel, and be sure to
work from the outer edge toward the center of the spill. Then dampen a clean,
white cotton towel with isopropyl alcohol (do not pour alcohol directly onto the
carpet), and blot the stain. Repeat until ink is no longer being transferred
onto the towel. If there's still a stain, try blotting with household hydrogen
peroxide on a white cotton towel. Rinse thoroughly. Allow to dry overnight.
To prevent ink-jet spills in my office, I place the cartridge inside a plastic
bag before pulling off the covering strip, and I keep the bag around the
cartridge while I insert it into and remove it from the printer.
OR.....
Try Citra-Solv. Although we can now find it in our local grocery store I first
ran into it in a Natural Health Food Store and have been wild about it since. It
removes all types of ink (even permanent printer ink), tar, paint, and just
plain crude and it smells pleasant too... just like Oranges.
Test for color fastness but I haven't had any problems so far. It's also not
recommended for certain plastics either since it could cloud the surface.
Hope this works for someone.

January 29 marks the beginning of the
Chinese Year of the Dog.
Let's be extra good to our dogs this year! Chinese astrology says those
born in the year of the dog are "faithful, honest and sincere, but can be
eccentric and stubborn". Sound like anybody you know?
